World leaders from the leading industrialized democracies, including the U.S., Russia, Britain, France, Japan, Germany, Canada and Italy, will travel in clean, quiet GEM electric vehicles while attending this summer's G8 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia from July 15-17.

At the selection of Russian President Vladimir Putin, the Russian government has purchased 30 four-passenger (e4) GEM electric vehicles for use during the G8 Summit. Each e4 is decorated with a participating country's national flag and the official logo of the 2006 G8 Summit.

"GEM electric vehicles will offer the participating leaders with an environmentally-friendly transportation option while attending the G8 Summit," says Rick Kasper, President and Chief Operating Officer of Global Electric Motorcars, LLC. "It is an honor for GEM to be participating in this important international event for the second time."

GEM gained notoriety when it provided 38 vehicles for the 2004 G8 Summit in Sea Island, Ga. The custom-designed GEM electric vehicles were provided for the leaders of the participating governments' transportation needs and decorated in their nation's flag.

"With zero emissions, GEMs provide clean, quiet, efficient and affordable transportation. As an alternative to conventional vehicles, they can have a significant impact on air quality," adds Kasper.

Global Electric Motorcars, LLC, a DaimlerChrysler company headquartered in Fargo, N.D., is the leading manufacturer of neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) in the world. GEM electric vehicles provide clean, quiet, convenient and low-cost transportation in locations such as master planned communities, college and university campuses, military bases, airports, state and national parks, resorts, city centers and industrial and commercial campuses. More than 30,000 are in use across the United Sates and internationally.

GEM electric vehicles have a top speed of 25 mph, can be driven on roadways posted up to 35 mph, and meet all federal safety standards for Low Speed Vehicles.

Global Electric Motorcars, LLC recently expanded its marketing internationally with the availability of GEM electric vehicles through new distributors in Western Europe. This expansion brings an immediate solution to the European customer looking for alternative transportation for short distances and to reduce emissions and fuel consumption.
