The new R 63 AMG offers an unprecedented combination of sportiness, spaciousness and top-class comfort for up to six people. The extra-dynamic interpretation of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class is propelled by the new AMG 6.3-litre V8 powerplant.

The R 63 AMG provides clear proof of Mercedes-AMG's expertise in the design of unique high-performance cars. Following on from the unveiling of the Vision R 63 AMG at the IAA International Motor Show in Frankfurt am Main in September 2005 and the positive response to this groundbreaking show car, the series-production version is now in the starting blocks.

Like the standard version of the new Mercedes-Benz R-Class, the new R 63 AMG is available with a short or long wheelbase. With its cutting-edge technology, avant-garde appearance and luxurious interior, the six-seater is the epitome of the sporty and dynamic trendsetter.

Guaranteed dynamic performance with AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine

With an output of 375 kW/510 hp and 630 newton metres of torque, this newly developed high-displacement, naturally-aspirated AMG eight-cylinder unit ensures effortless, dynamic progress. The short-wheelbase R 63 AMG accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 5.0 seconds (R 63 AMG with long wheelbase: 5.1 seconds) and has a maximum speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited). Power is transferred by the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC transmission with steering-wheel gearshift buttons, DIRECT SELECT shift lever and three driving modes. A combination of all-wheel drive with power split 40:60 between the front and rear wheels and an AMG sports suspension, featuring AIRMATIC air suspension with self-levelling control and Adaptive Damping System, ensures outstanding handling safety and the choice of either a dynamic or a comfort-oriented style of driving at the mere touch of a button. Meanwhile, the large AMG high-performance brake system makes for extremely short stopping distances.

Exterior and interior finished with hallmark AMG exclusiveness

Restyled front and rear aprons in the characteristic AMG look, the two twin chrome-plated tailpipes of the AMG sports exhaust system and sporty, dark-tinted tail lights communicate sheer dynamism. The performance potential of the R 63 AMG is clearly indicated by the "6.3 AMG" lettering on the front wings. AMG 20-inch light-alloy wheels in a five-spoke design with 265/45 R 20 wide-base tyres front and rear have a striking impact at the side. Furthermore, the R 63 AMG is the first Mercedes-Benz vehicle to offer 21-inch AMG light-alloy wheels as an optional extra.

What makes the interior of the R 63 AMG so impressive is its spaciousness, exclusive appointments and extremely high-class feel. AMG sports seats in the front, the nappa leather upholstery with Alcantara inserts for all seats, the decorative trim in black aluminium, the AMG ergonomic sports steering wheel with gearshift buttons and the AMG instrument cluster with AMG main menu and RACETIMER all combine to produce a distinctly sporty flair. The market launch of the R 63 AMG is due to commence in the third quarter of 2006.
